KC Management Group Participates in Research Study To Accelerate Growth of Businesses Owned by Women of Color
(March 5, 2007) MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE - KC Management Group (KCMG), a management consultant firm specializing in Information Technology systems and business process operations, has announced its participation in a ground-breaking, multi-year national research study to advance the growth of U.S. businesses owned by women of color.
The study, Accelerating the Growth of Businesses Owned by Women of Color, is being conducted by the Center for Women's Business Research and Babson College Center for Women's Leadership. Sponsored by a number of leading US corporations, women business owner organizations and nonprofits, it will seek to uncover barriers and challenges faced by women of color who own businesses. The study's recommendations for public and private sector policies will be presented at a conference in 2009.
KCMG founder and CEO Camelle Logan, who actively participated in the launch of this study on February 21 in Philadelphia, says:
"KCMG has joined this research project to help support women of color who are entrepreneurs. Many women of color who start businesses are not aware of the many obstacles they will meet, not only as entrepreneurs, but also as women of color. Hopefully, this study will contribute to greater knowledge and understanding as well as to a national agenda and policies that will remove barriers to success so women of color can fulfill their potential to make a positive economic and social impact."
KCMG was established in 2002 and has offices in Memphis (Cordova), Tennessee, Chicago, Illinois, and Baltimore, Maryland. KCMG clientele is state and local government entities, nonprofits and commercial clients throughout the United States. KCMG Receives 8A Certification from the Small Business Admiministration
The Small Business Administration has announced KC Management Group Corporation has been certified as a participant in the SBA 8a Business Development Program. The certification is valid for nine years through the year 2014. Additionally, KC Management Group has been certified as a Small Disadvantaged Business for the same nine year period.
This certification in the 8a Business Development Program will allow KC Management Group to receive business development assistance from the federal government in a variety for forms that range from support for government contractors, access to capital, management and technical assistance, to even export assistance.
Benefits of the Program
KC Management Group can receive sole-source contracts, up to a ceiling of $3 million for goods and services and $5 million for manufacturing. While SBA helps 8(a) firms build their competitive and institutional know-how, the agency also encourages them to participate in competitive acquisitions.
Federal acquisition policies encourage Federal agencies to award a certain percentage of their contracts to SDBs. To speed up the award process, the SBA has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with 25 Federal agencies allowing them to contract directly with certified 8(a) firms.
Recent changes permit 8(a) firms to form joint ventures and teams to bid on contracts. This enhances the ability of 8(a) firms to perform larger prime contracts and overcome the effects of contract bundling, the combining of two or more contracts together into one large contract.
The nine-year certification period is divided into two phases; a four year development stage and a five year transition stage. It is the goal of the SBA to help KC Management Group grow and be self sustaining by the end of the nine year period.
“This is an exceptional opportunity for us to engage with new clients, provide more services, and to refine our own operating processes,” said KC Management Group and CEO, Camelle Logan. She continued, “We have much work ahead, but the door to more opportunity has been opened for us and it is up to us to make the most of it. I’ve very excited for our people and our clients.”
